As (seemingly premature) reports emerged that Greek PM George Papandreou’s resignation was imminent, the head of state announced that a planned referendum on the Euro bailout has been called off:
“The referendum was never an end in itself,” Papandreou said. “We had a dilemma – either true assent or a referendum. I said yesterday, if the assent were there, we would not need a referendum.”
Anyone follow that?
