Lifesite News reports more details. The woman went into the sacristy a few minutes before Mass and introduced another woman as her “lover.” The priest, under these circumstances, was forced to withhold communion, but did so quietly with no intention to hurt or embarrass.
So quietly not even the Eucharistic minister a few feet away heard him. It’s not clear the woman has any ongoing relationship to the Catholic Church.
The Archdiocese of Washington appeared to reprimand this priest. But really, the bishops have to make it clear that the time to confess your sin to a priest is in the confessional, whose doors are always open, and not a few minutes before the Mass starts.
