With the next round in the racial-preferences ping-pong match coming before the Supreme Court in October with Fisher v. University of Texas, there is likely to be a flood of studies produced claiming the benefits of racial diversity on white performance; that is, white students benefit intellectually from being exposed to a more diverse population, making racial preferences in admissions desirable for all.
In this week’s Clarion Call, Jane Shaw and Jenna Ashley Robinson rip into one of those studies and find something interesting. The study’s authors intended to prove the benefits of racial diversity, but the results were shaky, at best. However, they uncovered something else: The study shows that having a diversity of beliefs strongly improves intellectual performance.
My guess is this study won’t be cited in Fisher by the defendants. Or, for that matter, by anybody else in the entire education establishment.
