Several years ago, a policy change in Michigan put the future of Hillsdale College’s teacher-preparation program in jeopardy. The state decreed that all teacher-training programs in the state would have to obtain national accreditation, but the people at Hillsdale knew that was both costly and useless. What to do? They decided to continue, revamping their program to improve it and aiming at the market for teachers in schools that don’t have to bow to government certification requirements.
