The South Korean rap star known as PSY is still slated to perform at the White House’s “Christmas in Washington” concert – taping tonight – despite the discovery of an anti-American performance the rapper delivered at a concert protesting the Iraq War back in 2004. The lyrics of the song, “Dear American,” include:
Kill those f***ing Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives
Kill those f***ing Yankees who ordered them to torture
Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers
Kill them all slowly and painfully
Video of the performance shows PSY dropping a toy military tank on the stage and beating it to pieces with something that looks like a sword.
In the wake of the controversy that erupted when this performance was discovered by the American media, PSY released a statement through his publisher indicating that he’s “deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted.”
A petition opposing PSY’s performance at the Christmas concert was garnering signatures on the White House’s “We the People” website, but, according to Mediaite, it was removed for reportedly violating the site’s terms and conditions.
PSY’s song “Gangnam Style” holds the honor of being the most-viewed YouTube video of all time.
