On February 4, former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford will be speaking at the lunch meeting of the Hilton Head First Monday Club.
When then-congressman Sanford decided to announce he was running for governor in 2002, he made the announcement at a First Monday luncheon. In 2006, he formally announced his bid for reelection at the group’s lunch meeting as well.
Tom Hatfield, moderator of the luncheons, thinks Sanford will announce he’s running for his old congressional seat when he appears before the group in February.
“He’s looking all but certain to do it,” a former top aide to Sanford told CNN in December.
UPDATE: The filing deadline for the special House election is January 28, so whether Sanford intends to run for the seat will be known before his appearance.
