Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had a heated exchange with Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky this morning during her testimony on Capitol Hill.
“I’m glad that you’re accepting responsibility, and that ultimately, with your leaving, you accept culpability for the worst tragedy since 9/11,” Paul told Clinton.
Her mistakes, he added, “cost people their lives.”
“It’s inexcusable that you did not read these cables,” Paul said. “I would have relieved you of your post.”
Clinton was at the Foreign Relations Committee to speak about her management of the State Department and the Benghazi attack.
Clinton, for her part, defended her actions. “The administration has sent officials to the Hill thirty times,” she said. “We’ve been as transparent as we can.”
