In addition to his excellent taste in reading material, Senator Rand Paul is a good reminder of why even those conservatives who are not entirely sympathetic to the libertarian tendency should be glad to have a few libertarians in the mix. If the question of whether we can kill U.S. citizens on U.S. soil based on nothing more than the president’s say-so is not fundamental, I don’t know what is.
And who doesn’t love an old-fashioned talking filibuster?
The political geography is interesting, too: Both of the senators from my home state, Texas, are supporting Senator Paul. One of the senators from my home-away-from-home state, Pennsylvania, is supporting Senator Paul. And zero of the senators from my home-away-from-home-away-from-home state, New York, stand with Rand.
