After winning the Republican-primary run-off last night, South Carolina congressional candidate Mark Sanford has already shifted his focus from his Republican opponent to his Democratic one, Elizabeth Colbert Busch.
He went after her lack of experience in public office and her dependence on her celebrity brother on Morning Joe today: “Right now, the one thing people know about her is she’s Stephen Colbert’s sister. Well, at the end of the day, Stephen Colbert is a very popular, well-regarded comedian, but . . . he’s not on the ticket.” Sanford said that once voters get past her name ID, they will realize he’s more in line with them on policy.
National Review’s Betsy Woodruff also appeared in the segment to discuss her piece on the homepage yesterday, in which she spoke with Sanford’s former congressional staffers and found they thought highly of him, even after his scandal.
