Chris Matthews is baffled by opposition to President Obama as he faces a series of scandals, especially because the president has “never done anything wrong in his life.”
“His whole life has been crystal clear, and clean as a whistle, and transparent,” Matthews said on his show earlier this week. “He’s never done anything wrong in his life — legally, ethically, whatever.”
This line of reasoning led Matthews “to believe it’s ethnic with these people.” “Is there any other evidence to justify why they keep calling him a ‘bad man?’” he asked.
Moments after stating that “it’s ethnic with these people,” Matthews revealed that he voted for Republican Michael Steele for Senate in 2006 because he is black.
“We don’t have any African-Americans in the United States Senate, which I think is a disgrace,” Matthews said. “It’s one of the reasons I voted for our friend Michael Steele when he ran, because I think we ought to have some.”
It was later pointed out to Matthews that there are currently two African-American senators: Tim Scott of South Carolina and Mo Cowan of Massachusetts.
