Defense Attorney: Prosecution’s Tactics Are 'Outrageous'
In a pre-trial hearing this morning, the prosecution asked the court to bring charges of child abuse and third degree murder against George Zimmerman.
Defense attorney Don West denounced the proposal, calling the allegation unfounded and arguing that the state did not give the defense sufficient time to prepare.
Referring to the prosecution’s request to consider new charges against Zimmerman, West said it has spent “hours if not days if not in fact more than a year, plotting for this moment when he can spring it on us and the court.” The defense was notified of the request this morning at 7 A.M. and claims it has not had time to go through the relevant case law.
West went on to say that this tactic speaks to the disingenuous way the state has conducted its case since April: “This is outrageous. It’s outrageous that the state would do this at this time in this case.”
