Senator Orrin Hatch said on Sunday that he is “counting on the House” to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
The Utah senator acknowledged that the Senate bill “isn’t perfect,” but denied reports that the Republican-controlled House is unlikely to move forward with the legislation. “There are a lot of things that need to be perfected and the House can do a very good job if they will and hopefully we can go to conference and come up with a bill that will solve this festering sore that exists in our country today.”
Hatch was initially considered a swing vote on the bill, but the Gang of Eight won his support as their negotiations drew to a close. “I’m counting on the House getting it even better,” he said.
