Clinton on Syria Agreement: 'Who Cares How It Came Up?'
Bill Clinton dismissed concerns over whether the United States–Russia agreement to rid Syria of chemical weapons elevates Russia’s diplomatic standing and hurts American credibility abroad as overblown. He praised the agreement for reaching its goal regardless of how it came about.
“There are some who say, ‘Well, this gives the initiative to Putin,’” Clinton said in an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria set to air on Sunday. “Who cares how it came up? John Kerry got asked, ‘How can we stop you from bombing,’ and he said, ‘Make the problem go away.’”
“There is inherent and enduring benefit in taking a step that has the potential to rid the world of these chemical weapons,” he added.
