Angus King: Conservatives Who Encourage Young Not to Enroll in Obamacare 'Guilty of Murder'
In an interview with Salon this morning, Senator Angus King (I., Maine) had some harsh words for conservatives who are encouraging young people not to enroll in the new health-care exchanges.
“That’s a scandal — those people are guilty of murder in my opinion,” King said. “Some of those people they persuade are going to end up dying because they don’t have health insurance. For people who do that to other people in the name of some obscure political ideology is one of the grossest violations of our humanity I can think of. This absolutely drives me crazy.”
King, one of two independents in the Senate who caucuses with Democrats, said that 15,000 to 25,000 people a year die in the United States because they don’t have health insurance. A melanoma survivor, King credits the health insurance he had 40 years ago for saving his life, which he says enabled him to get “fairly major surgery.”
