Sen. Blumenthal: 'We Have to Consider' Delaying Obamacare's Individual Mandate
Senator Richard Blumenthal (D., Conn.) said this morning that a delay of Obamacare’s individual mandate should be considered.
“We have to consider delaying the mandate, that is, the penalty,” Blumenthal said on MSNBC.
“The important point here is that we need more certainty . . . both as to the open enrollment period, which is scheduled to end on March 31, and imposition of that penalty. There may be a need for delays if these kinds of [technical] problems continue,” Blumenthal said.
Blumenthal is not the only Democratic senator to suggest delaying elements of the law. Senators Mark Pryor (D., Ark.) and Jeanne Shaheen (D., N.H.) havecalled for lengthening the enrollment period. Senator Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) backs a delay of the mandate.
