White House Chief of Staff: Obama Will Wait on Other Agency Reports Before Keystone Approval
White House chief of staff Denis McDonough said that President Obama will not yet approve the Keystone pipeline despite the State Department report released on Friday indicating that the pipeline would not exacerbate climate change.
“What would stop [President Obama] from saying yes at this point, given his own State Department saying, ‘there’s not a big impact on the climate for doing this?’” asked Meet the Press host David Gregory.
“We have one department with a study, now we have other expert agencies — the EPA, the energy department — to have an opportunity to look at this and make their determinations,” McDonough said. “The president wants to protect their ability to do that, make this decision based on the best analysis and most sound science.”
