My article on the mainstream media’s failure to scrutinize a report on civilian casualties that the antiwar group Iraq Body Count issued last week is up on the home page. I focused on the media’s failure, while Alston Ramsay eviscerated the group’s suspect statistical methods.
A Media Blog reader drew my attention to this story in Newsweek, which ran yesterday as a Web-only feature (it is not mentioned in my article, which was written Friday). The Newsweek story is also critical of the Iraq Body Count report, and adds the additional perspective of someone who’s been on the ground in Iraq. It seems as though people are finally waking up to the true nature of this group’s propaganda.
