There was an article in Inside Higher Ed Friday about the University of Texas’s efforts to hire more female professors.
Here’s the comment I posted:
If the University of Texas is treating candidates differently on the basis of sex (or race, ethnicity, or religion) — and this appears to be the case — then it is violating Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. This was clear before the decision by the Supreme Court this summer in the New Haven firefighters case, but it is even clearer now. See my discussion here. Someone should sue.
