Rich Vedder has posted his comments on the Future of Higher Education
Commission’s final report here, with special attention to the big “no” from David Ward. I think that Rich is absolutely correct in writing that the higher-ed establishment “just doesn’t get it.” They see nothing wrong except that governments are not providing as much money as the big spenders in higher ed would like.
It’s not surprising that Ward would stick with the party line: “Things are wonderful in higher education, but we need a lot more money.” Especially telling is the Commission’s failure to say anything about the problem of intellectual diversity. Vedder was the only member of the Commission who wanted to talk about that issue.
