So What's the Excuse for No Special Election This Time?
If a special election is required to fill Rahm Emanuel’s House seat in Illinois, why not have one for Obama’s Senate seat?
The inane objection offered by Democratic talking heads like Donna Brazile was that holding a special election would be “too expensive.” But since they’re already legally required to have a special election in Emanuel’s congressional district, and spending a certain amount on that, why not spend a little more and hold a statewide special election for Senate the same day?
As John Gizzi noted, two sets of municipal elections are to be held in Illinois in next year: “a primary during the February set of municipal elections and a special election during the next round of municipal races in April.”
Are Democrats that worried that Rep. Mark Kirk or Rep. Peter Roskam could win the seat?
