When Words Are Not Enough

For years, first at FIRE and now at the Alliance Defense Fund, I’ve been telling stories about censorship of students and oppressive authoritarian ideologies on campus. Yet words — no matter how vivid — often fail to convey reality in quite the same way that images do. Yesterday, the Alliance Defense Fund Center for Academic Freedom launched a new video series, “Hanna’s Story,” that tracks a (fictional) student’s efforts to start a pro-life club on her campus. The series is based on our actual cases.

You can watch the first one, which introduces Hanna, here.

The second one is here, and it is based in part on Beth Sheeran’s ordeal at Spokane Falls Community College.

As the series progresses, you’ll ask yourself, “Did these things actually happen to real students?”  Yes, they did, and they keep happening across the country.
