A Nation of Graduate Students

by Carol Iannone

Michael Novak’s column is right on. There is a strength in American culture that emerged clearly in this election and contrasted with the vision for America harbored by Obama and the Democrats. The American people want jobs so that they can take care of themselves, but Obama and his Dems want to give them government entitlements so that they don’t need jobs.

Pelosi said the other day that the health-care bill would “liberate” Americans. Remember when she said some months ago how wonderful it would be for Americans to be free to leave their jobs to realize themselves and not worry about health care? Her exact words: “Think of an economy where people could be an artist or a photographer or a writer without worrying about keeping their day job in order to have health insurance.”

She actually wants to infantilize the American people, to turn them into perennial graduate students hanging around student apartments in their college towns, supposedly developing their creativity.
