Stereotypes Get Sticky at UC Irvine

Maybe the chef meant well, but . . .

A last-minute decision to serve fried chicken and waffles at a campus dining hall in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. was a regrettable choice and lacked sensitivity, UC Irvine officials acknowledged Wednesday.

I think we can all agree that honoring a civil-rights hero with a fried-chicken dinner probably wasn’t such a good idea. But am I the only person who has never heard of waffles having any sort of racial connotation?
