Truman State University announced this week that it will cut men’s golf after the spring season. The school is also phasing out scholarships for men’s tennis, men’s swimming, baseball, and wrestling will be phased out during the next four years. The school admits that cuts to female programs were off the table due to Title IX concerns.

No worries. David French tells us here on Phi Beta Cons that Harvard accepting ROTC will help us in the culture war because, after all, Harvard is so "influential." Who is infiltrating who here...we're giving them money and in return receiving their graduates, trained in idiotic ethics. Meanwhile, men are being eradicated from college campuses around the country. Less than 50 percent already, with mens athletic programs vanishing this will continue to snowball, won't it? Every achievement by women is a victory over adversity while achievement by men (particularly, y'know, white and straight) is viewed as a defeat. Risk taking, exuberance, adventure, all masculine qualities suppressed. How will we grow an economy or defend ourselves when we become a nation of homogenized rule followers? Answer: we won't. Welcome to the future, it is being formed on our college campuses today.

One of the unfortunate things is that there are naive people trying to raise money to save it, not realizing that it the program is being cut for more than merely monetary reasons.
Title IX was a good thing when it first came into being thirty odd years ago. But common sense needs to prevail in interpreting it!
And at this point, aren't the young men the minority in schools? Shouldn't they get some protection now? Evanston2, you hit the nail on the head!
We can also kiss goodbye American men doing well in just about anything at the Summer Olympics. Most of them get a lot of their training in high school and college sports. With the "Title IX-ing" of high school boy's sports being threatened, boys will have virtually NO chance of participating in anything besides basketball and football...
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseDoesn't closing down all these college men's sports violate prongs 2 and 3 of the "three prong test" for compliance with Title IX? (Thank you EVER so much, Jimmy Carter!)
1. Prong one - Providing athletic participation opportunities that are substantially proportionate to the student enrollment, OR
2. Prong two - Demonstrate a continual expansion of athletic opportunities for the underrepresented sex, OR
3. Prong three - Full and effective accommodation of the interest and ability of underrepresented sex.
According to US News and World Report, Truman State has an enrollment that is 42% male and 58% female. Doesn't that make men the "underrepresented sex?"
