Inside Higher Ed discusses a 2008 agreement between Florida State and the Charles G. Koch Foundation. The agreement gives to a foundation-approved advisory board veto power on the selection of faculty paid for with Koch funds. Apparently, this agreement shocked two faculty members (one emeritus) who recently wrote a column in the Tallahassee Democrat, kicking off this brouhaha.
Now, whose money is paying for the selected faculty member? Oh yes, Koch’s. (By the way, kudos to the president of Florida State, Eric Barron, for defending the agreement and for agreeing to speak to the IHE reporter. I don’t see presidents take on tough tasks like that very often.)
