I blame the federal government for the rising tide of student debt (now larger than the nation’s credit-card debt). But the people who take on those loans are also responsible, even though many are only 18 years old. For several years, the Pope Center’s Jenna Ashley Robinson has tried to warn students off debt, but in today’s article she says that if you must borrow, borrow wisely. And she supplies statistics from the website Mapping Your Future to show that graduates typically must earn a lot more than today’s starting salaries to keep their heads above water — that is, to be able to pay back their loans without severe difficulty.
