You’ve seen a lot of hand-wringing by public universities over the cuts that legislatures are making in their budgets. But have any of those schools laid out plans for how to make those cuts? In case they need some ideas, Jay Schalin has come up with recommendations and a rationale for setting priorities. I’m sure most readers here would agree that judicious cuts would strengthen the academic enterprise, not weaken it.
