The Urge to Shower Money on Colleges

by George Leef

In this piece, Hans Bader of Competitive Enterprise Institute writes about a recent decision in Maryland to allocate more than half a million dollars for the purchase of new, high-end pianos for Bowie State University. Bowie State is not Juilliard.  It’s bottom-tier school with, Bader reports, a notoriously leftist faculty. Why it should get a load of new pianos when Maryland’s budget is a sea of red ink is a mystery.
