I'm delighted to see that Linda Chavez grasps that pushing "higher education" as if it were some sort of magic elixir that cures our socio-economic ailments is just a waste of resources. Luring weak and disengaged kids into college programs and prodding them along to get empty degrees is not going to improve American productivity.
Undoubtedly, Obama will campaign on his notion that promoting higher ed "access" further is a reason to support him. I wonder if any of the GOP contenders will be well prepared to contest that and argue that we have already overdone it on higher education.
