UNC Reverses Course

Text

Earlier in the year, the UNC-Greensboro denied religious status to an overtly Christian pro-life organization called “Make Up Your Own Mind.” That ruling was one of a wave of recent decisions made by colleges to deny student clubs the right to exclude members based on their beliefs, after such organizations’ First Amendment rights were muddied by the 2010 Supreme Court decision, Christian Legal Society v. Martinez.

Recently, the school relented and gave Make Up Your Own Mind the right to exclude based on belief. The reversal occurred after the Alliance Defense Fund filed suit on behalf of Make Up Your Own Mind.
