Higher Ed and ‘Unsustainability’

Text

Hamilton College history professor Bob Paquette explains in a See Thru Edu post how higher education contributes to the unsustainability of the United States. I particularly like his response to the administrator who said that there is no problem with the lack of diversity of ideas on campus because students were not turning into Marxist zealots after their years on campus. Paquette replies that the problem is that very few students learn how to defend the American traditions of limited government, individual responsibility, free enterprise, and private property.

Sustainability has become a fad on campuses in recent years, but that does not include thinking about how statism is undermining the sustainability of our economic and political institutions.
