If you doubt that there is an implicit “no conservatives need apply” rule at many American colleges and universities, read Mark Bauerlein’s Minding the Campus essay on the Theresa Wagner case. Would she have made a good faculty member at Iowa’s law school? That can scarcely be doubted, but her rejection of leftist orthodoxy made her unacceptable in the minds of the decision-makers.
