Wild Kingdom Campus Conservatives
Establishment academics often write about campus conservatives the way TV outdoor-show hosts approach dangerous animals: “We’re about to encounter the exotic college conservative in his natural habitat, the campus. Krikee, there’s one now! And what a foul-looking brute he is!”
In today’s Clarion Call, George Leef rips apart a new book by a couple of such academic authors. The book, entitled Becoming Right, sniffingly packages college conservatives into the authors’ pre-conceived notions — that conservatism is about style, not substantive ideas.
As such, George describes how the book is more revealing about those preconceived notions than it is about real college conservatives and libertarians. He also manages to take the discourse to the book’s proper level by quoting from a cartoon (the gut-busting funny Calvin and Hobbes).
