Re: Effect of Nondiscrimination
Roger’s post highlights something important about the mindset of the affirmative-action zealots. It’s obvious that they look at the world in a groupthink, tribalistic way, demanding that each discrete group have its quota of “representatives” on campus. What we see from the Chronicle piece is that they assume that that’s the way the rest of us think, too. They evidently believe that, in Michigan for example, white voters who supported Proposition 2 did so only because they figured that passage would mean more white kids would be admitted — a win for the white tribe. It would undoubtedly surprise the BAMN types to know that few if any of the opponents of racial preferences hold our views because we think we’re helping “our” group.
