In news related to the previous post, Slate.com reported yesterday that the military has been tending to accept less-intelligent recruits to meet its goals. Almost 30 percent of 2007 recruits didn’t even have high-school diplomas.

On the one hand, this furthers the point: High-school dropouts aren’t likely to benefit from a new GI Bill. But on the other hand, an incentive that appeals specifically to bright recruits might help reverse the trend.
