Walter Williams Takes a Dim View of HBCUs

In this column, Professor Walter Williams takes a dim view of historically black colleges, asking whether they haven’t outlived their usefulness.

Last week, I had some good things to say about them here.

No doubt Williams is right that the academic standards are very weak in many courses and many students are lacking in basic civility, but you’ll find the same problems at other schools that will admit almost any warm body. The problem, I believe, stems from putting large numbers of disengaged students in college, no matter what their race.
