The Fugitive

The apparent lead in the Leo Burt/Wisconsin bomber case didn’t pan out:

A tip that investigators hoped would lead them to Leo Burt, a suspect in the bombing of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Sterling Hall and a federal fugitive for more than 37 years, proved fruitless, authorities said Monday.

“It proved to be nothing,” FBI spokesman Leonard Peace said. “Leo Burt is not in custody.” …

Former U.S. Attorney David Mebane … wonders whether Burt will be apprehended in his lifetime.

“I don’t know,” he said. “Wherever he is, he’s deeply encased in a new identity somewhere.”

Here’s what Burt may look like now. There’s a $50,000 reward for info leading to his arrest.
