A Brave UCLA Freshman

Posing as a pregnant 15 year old girl, UCLA student journalist Lila Rose walked into a Planned Parenthood clinic in Los Angeles with a hidden camera and asked if there was anything she could do to avoid the mandatory reporting requirements for statutory rape.  The response of the Planned Parenthood employee?  “Just figure out a birth date that works,” she said.  “And I don’t know anything.”  Heartbreakingly, a Planned Parenthood employee also told Lila that she had a baby when she was 17, and “If [she] had to do it again,” she would have had an abortion.  To sell an abortion, Planned Parenthood employees are willing to advise a young girl to break the law and to tell her that they wish they had aborted their own children.  That’s not presenting a “choice.”  That’s making a sales pitch.

Predictably, Planned Parenthood has reacted to this student journalist (Lila is 18 years old) not by getting their own house in order, but by threatening her with California criminal statutes.  At ADF, we’re working to protect Lila and make sure that she isn’t bullied into silence.  After working for years on campus issues, I’ve seen more than my share of silly student advocacy.  Lila is different.    Her work is brave and consequential, and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure it continues.

Assuming no late schedule changes, Look for Lila (and me) discussing this case on the O’Reilly Factor tonight.
