What’s Offensive at Swarthmore

Text

Remember – a Rehnquist Professorship at Middlebury is an act of “symbolic violence.” Affirmative Action bake-sales are discriminatory. But Gay student groups chalking pictures of female genitalia and anal sex are engaged in “questioning of heteronormative culture.” Read about it here. As one chalking participant stated: When there’s a vagina in front of Sharples [Dining Hall], the idea behind it is for people to look at the vagina and say, ‘Why does this make me uncomfortable?”

Ok, sure; bad taste is legion at college campuses, I’m not really hopeful of stopping it. However, would any campus display be permitted involving a stated aim to make gay students think “Does this make me uncomfortable?” Of course not. What kind of bigot are you?
