People Power?

Text

The Chronicle has an interesting piece on the backers of the Michigan Proposition 2 fight. If you’d forgotten, Proposition 2 would expel all minorities from Michigan. Sorry, getting carried away–rather, it would end preferences in state agencies and universities. Another issue of the people vs. the powerful? Well, not quite. Those groups promoting the proposition have raised $1.4 million. Those supporting it have raised $4.6 million. This money came mainly from concerned academics?  Yes, groups such as the Law School Admissions Council, and The Association of American Medical Colleges donated large sums, but more than a third of their donations accrued from corporate sources, including Ford, Daimler-Chrysler, Pfizer, Aetna, JP Morgan, and Dow Chemical. Finally, a cause to bring together big Autos, pharmaceuticals, finance, and the American Association of University Professors.
