Detroit — The Detroit News has seen a regular flow of congressional and gubernatorial candidates this primary season, and it’s become a standard Democratic talking point to worry about declining gas-tax revenue — because “everyone knows that the auto fleet is transitioning to electrics.” Well, only if the pols outlaw the internal-combustion engine.
Here’s a recent exchange between longtime industry watchers Peter De Lorenzo and John McElroy’s on the latter’s radio program, “After Hours”:
De Lorenzo: Everyone’s jumping the electric car train, but that train’s pretty short. There are a few fops in Silicon Valley who gotta have an electric car. But is 50 percent of the fleet going to be electric? No way.
McElroy: Wait until people say, ‘I got to wait how many hours to recharge?’
