Three-Fourths of Americans Consider Themselves ‘Eco-Friendly’

Marist:

76% of Americans believe they do their part to help the environment. Included here are 36% who do a fair amount, 23% who do a good amount, and 17% who do a great deal. However, when thinking about how they live and the items they buy, 24% of residents nationally do very little or nothing at all to protect the environment.

Those in the Northeast, Americans who earn $50,000 or more annually, college graduates, residents 45 or older, and women are the most ecologically minded residents.

This is just a guess, but I think a number of the respondents are, shall we say, lying.

Actually I'm sure Americans do a lot more eco-friendly stuff than just about any country in the world.

I don't remember seeing any recycling bins anywhere when I visited Ireland, UK or Spain (plenty of folks drinking water from plastic bottles though.) Poorly insulated old buildings with individual electric heat and AC units in every room are fairly typical.

And that's modern "green" Europe -- I can't imagine they do much of anything "eco-friendly" in places like China or India.

"Greenism" is a symptom of a wealthy country with the luxury of feeling guilty about existential issues. So of course America leads the way and always has!
