Secretary Chu Aims to ‘Save’ Coal

Of course, to “save” coal we need to invent unicorns cost-efficient carbon-capture technology:

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Energy Secretary Steven Chu on Wednesday urged West Virginians not to fear the Obama administration’s energy policies and to embrace carbon capture and storage technology as the way to continue burning coal while fighting global warming.

“It will save coal,” Chu told reporters after speaking at a University of Charleston forum on carbon capture and storage, or CCS.

Chu took the stage with Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., to promote CCS — and defend President Obama’s coal policies — to an audience of business leaders and industry officials.

Paul Krugman, Al Gore, Barack Obama, Steve Chu: is it possible for politics to make the winning of a Nobel prize any more farcical? Shouldn't a big deal world class scientist have some concept of the scale of carbon capture facilities that would be required to maintain coal production at present levels, if we moved to apply capture techniques to all coal burning plants? Shouldn't he know how infinitesimal the impact would be on the global temperature, even if we were able to do this?
