The most startling part about this drunken soliloquy by the UN undersecretary general for economic and social affairs isn’t the content of his rant (I’ll have what he’s having). It’s not even that the UN has an undersecretary general for economic and social affairs. (We Americans have a somewhat different view of the UN and its role than others do.)
It’s that the UN undersecretary general for economic and social affairs – “China . . . lobbied hard for Sha’s appointment to his post” — is, de facto, a representative of the Chinese government.
Think about that one. Almost tops the membership of the body’s human rights panel on the outrage meter.
