President Obama’s Labor Secretary, Hilda Solis, will be at his side when he parachutes into downtown Detroit on Labor Day to celebrate his “investment” in American workers and green cars.
Solis, however, just bought an SUV made abroad.
“What better example could I set if I encouraged my staff to go and purchase and seek how we could acquire a vehicle that would for me would send a signal that we’re for supporting our American workers, American-made products, fuel efficient as well,” Solis proudly told reporters about her Chevy Equinox purchase. That was before they pointed out some inconvenient truths: The Equinox gets a mere 25 mpg, a long way from the 35.5 her boss has mandated all vehicles must achieve by 2015. Worse still, as Labor Secretary, she picked a vehicle made in Canada.
She’s learned the Obama White House slogan: Do as I say, not as I do.
