House Approves ‘Black Boxes’ in Cars

The picture says it all:

There was some bipartisan agreement — hybrid cars will now be made noisy:

The bill calls for hybrid and electric cars to be equipped with “alert sounds” that would “allow the pedestrian to reasonably detect a nearby electric or hybrid vehicle.” Some safety advocates have warned that the near-silence of electric and hybrid vehicles could make the cars silent killers.

I suggest the Three Stooges version of "Three Blind Mice" playing on continuous loop.

How about a playing card in the wheel spokes? Worked just fine when I was 8 years old!

Gee, pedestrians are ALL without working eyes? Is no one resposible for their own actions ? So the incompetent government should control EVERYTHING?

@ 180 Out-SF CA:

I'm sorry, but your comment about "Three Blind Mice" is wildly insensitive and inappropriate.

"Three Visually Impaired Rodent-Americans" is acceptable.

I think this is a way for the smugness-prone hybrid drivers to make sure that blind people know how superior they are to other less ecologically driven types.
