Using always-cool heat maps and spray charts, Baseball Analytics contributor David Pinto suggested on Wednesday that Derek Jeter’s mid-season trip to the disabled list may have been a gift from the gods, as the shortstop is now pulling the ball with considerably greater frequency.

Meanwhile, editor Bill Chuck offered up his own heat maps featuring Mariano Rivera’s cutter locations to suggest that the closer’s legendary pitch may be “moving, slowly, but surely into the territory of mere mortals.”
