Thank God for Mo Rivera

by Daniel Foster

I was watching Mariano Rivera’s post-game press conference after his record-setting 602nd save and, as is his custom, he repeatedly thanked the Almighty, and attributed the remarkable accomplishment of dominating the American League for fifteen years with a single pitch to the “mercy of God.”

I remarked on Twitter that Mo is just about the only athlete I really believe when he thanks God. Followers suggested Tim Tebow, which I granted, and Albert Pujols, which I also granted (but wondered aloud whether his piety oughtn’t compel him to admit to everybody that he’s actually 46).

Who else?
