Someone Actually Agreed to Become Astros GM!

by Jason Epstein

Actually, I kid (a little). Forty-five-year-old Jeff Luhnow, the vice president of player acquisition for the Cardinals, agreed to join the Astros as its general manager, replacing Ed Wade, who was fired last month.

Luhnow, known for his embrace of analytics in evaluating talent, joined the Cardinals in 2003. He was born and raised in Mexico and is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

Luhnow takes over a team that finished with 106 losses last season, just came under new ownership, and is slated to play in the American League West in 2013.
