Obama: Silent on Chicago Teachers Strike, Chatty About NFL

Text

You can’t make this stuff up. 350,000 kids out of school? Shhhhhh. A bad call in the NFL? Schedule an interview:

The blown call that flipped the outcome of a Monday night football game was so bad that even President Barack Obama is hoping for change.

NFL football owners need to settle their contract dispute and “get the permanent refs back,” Obama told The Des Moines Register in a telephone interview from the White House this afternoon.

“And I say this as a Bears fan, who obviously is never heartbroken when Packers lose, but it’s not this just this game,” Obama said. “We’ve seen that over the last several months. We need to go ahead and get this resolved and I think that is a bipartisan position.”

The referee’s ruling Monday night took the victory from the Green Bay Packers and handed it to the Seattle Seahawks – to the outrage of legions football fans.

The NFL this season locked out its regular referees amid a contract dispute and has been using replacement refs. That has led to a slew of complaints about botched calls, but none has been more blatant and controversial than the one that ended the Monday Night Football game between the Packers and Seahawks.

The rest here.
